Dermal Filler

Dermal filler injections can restore lost facial volume caused by aging. A new generation of specialized fillers also enables skilled injectors to sculpt and refine facial contours, enhancing a patient’s appearance. Fillers can further revitalize the skin’s overall tone and complexion.

What are Dermal Fillers?

There are two types of dermal fillers: semi-permanent and temporary. Semi-permanent dermal fillers are a type of injectable substance that can add volume to the face and restore a more youthful appearance. Temporary fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a natural sugar molecule found abundantly in the skin that provides smoothness, suppleness, and a healthy glow.

Youthful skin is rich in hyaluronic acid, which is why younger individuals typically have fewer lines and wrinkles. As we age, the body’s natural supply of hyaluronic acid diminishes, causing the skin to lose volume, resulting in a less plump, youthful look and occasionally leading to dullness or uneven tone.

How does Dermal Filler Work?

Hyaluronic acid molecules can hold up to 1,000 times their weight in water. When injected as a dermal filler, the gel helps smooth wrinkles, fill hollow areas, and lift sagging skin.

Recent advancements in high-tech, cross-linked hyaluronic acid materials allow for structural injections along the jawline to mimic bone, in the nose to elevate the bridge, or for chin enhancement. Depending on the product and injection site, these new fillers can last up to 24 months.
